The final evening of the “Midsummer Vilnius ’22” festival is an experience of pure talent. The voice of Violeta Urmana, an incomparable world-famous opera soloist of the Lithuanian Opera, in a duet with Italian tenor Alfredo Nigro will be heard in the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. It is a refined and subtle programme with a duo of perfect harmony.
Singing in the world’s most famous theaters for almost three decades, Violeta Urmana is a highly acclaimed concert and recital singer, performing music by G. Mahler, R. Strauss, A. Schoenberg, H. Berlioz, R. Wagner, and G. Verdi in the most famous European, United States, Israeli and Japanese concert halls, collaborating with the most talented conductors and soloists. V. Urmana appears quite rarely on the Lithuanian stage due to her busy concert schedule. Therefore this performance is an exceptional opportunity to see the beloved soloist live.
The Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Modestas Pitrėnas, will also play in an impressive classical music concert.
V. Urmana has won many awards: in London – the Royal Philharmonic Award for Singers; in Vienna – the Austrian “Kammersaengerin” title. In 2014, the President of Italy awarded her the order of “Stella d’Italia”. In her native Lithuania, she was awarded the order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas and in the 2020 Grand Cross of the Commander of the Order of Merit for Lithuania.
Violeta Urmana is recognized worldwide as one of the most prominent singers of today, not only as a mezzo-soprano but also as a dramatic soprano. Here’s a 2021 excerpt from critic Irma Foletti (Anaclase.com): “R. Strauss’s “Klytämnestra”, played by Violeta Urmana, captivated the audience with her powerful embodiment. Having started her career as a mezzo-soprano, later moving to a soprano, and now returning to her original range, the Lithuanian singer has preserved her enormous resources, an equally high-quality instrument at total volume and expressiveness, which makes every viewer thrilled by her deep low register.”
V. Urmana is a regular at the world’s largest opera houses – the “Metropolitan Opera” in New York, the “Teatro Real” in Madrid, the “Gran Teatre del Liceu” in Barcelona, the “Deutsche Oper” in Berlin, the “Deutsche Oper” in Vienna, and the “Teatro Alla Scala” in Milan. A guest at the “Royal Opera House” in London, Covent Garden, a guest at the festivals in Bayreuth, Salzburg, Aix-en-Provence, Edinburgh, the “BBC Proms”, and a recognized UNESCO artist for peace.
Italian tenor Alfredo Nigro sings at the “Teatro Alla Scala” in Milan, the “Teatro Real” in Madrid, the “Teatro San Carlo” in Naples, the “National Opera” in Paris, the “Teatro de la Maestranza” in Seville, and other theaters and concert halls. A. Nigro has sung at the prestigious Schubert Festival in Schwarzenberg (Austria), Rome’s Santa Cecilia Auditorium, the Paris Champs Elysées, the Toronto Opera Festival, Tokyo, Kyoto, Madrid, and the Vilnius Opera Festival, conducted by the world’s most famous conductors.
